Christian Bale's performance in THE MACHINIST is very good, but the tonal shifts prevent the atmosphere from being suspenseful from beginning to end. Most of the plot twists are predictable (of course the word was "Killer" and not "Miller;" the "M" dissapeared after TREVOR wrote "Mother"), but I don't think they were all supposed to shock the audience.
