Life Altering to anybody else?

I remember watching this in a pretty empty cinema and being frozen in my seat as the credits played. Although a great film, I was quite sombre in the moment because I realized how bored I was with my life. This movie really spoke to me, as I often found myself daydreaming about taking risk and traveling. I couldn't up & leave my job on a whim like Walter- it took 2 years to prepare, but I actually ended up moving overseas away from my comfort (I live in Melbourne, pretty easy living). This decision was largely influenced by Walter Mitty.

I did a 2 year visa in Canada. Not as cinematic as Ben Stiller made it, I still live with certain regrets. A lot of ups and downs - but mostly ups once I got used to the uncertainty. Wonderful experience overall and I'm hoping to go again - on a deeper dive into a newfangled saga.

Did anyone else find themselves looking at things a little differently after having seen this film?

It was! Before watching the movie I didn't really get people that were offended when their countries/cultures were misrepresented in movies. But as I am from Iceland I finally got to experience that. I wasn't offended, and didn't really care, but now I can sorta understand where people are coming from when they're upset about that kinda stuff

Iceland looks beautiful. Justin Bieber shot a music video there (I'll Show you), which I think was influenced by Walter Mitty. He has a long-board skating scene much like Walter.

Didn't this movie help triple tourism to Iceland? That and WOW airlines. Too bad WOW collapsed so quickly. Do you know the reasons for that?

reply

Nope. The movie was too formulaic and since it was a remake of a movie and story I've already read I was waiting to see if it was going to innovate the genre but all it really did was update it with CGI

Oh you daredevil living in English speaking countries. jk Rock on brother. Keep living. But yes this movie was more of a "need to do more of that getting lazy" movie for me. Unlike Walter I was very adventurous in my 20s. Was going places. Doing cool things and it reminded me that I need to get back up into it.

This movie tripled tourism to Iceland which benefited them greatly. Too bad WOW airlines flopped, and so mysteriously sudden.

I found it underwhelming, but then, I've always disliked Stiller and had gotten out of my own shell a long time before.

Maybe with another actor I would have liked it more, I mean no movie with Icelandic scenery is all bad, but the script really is pretty weak and Stiller is SO grating!
