Why fly to LA?

After meeting with Sean in Himalayas, Walter flew to L.A. and detained by the Custom, only for the eHarmony guy to rescue him.

Why did he fly to LA without knowing anyone there? What is he doing there? I thought he work/live in NY which is where LIFE office located?

In some kind of crazy cost cutting or efficiency scheme, airlines occasionally use multiple planes/stops in cross-national, and international flights. I haven't looked it up, but I would imagine a flight from the Himalayas may need to refuel immediately upon reaching the continental US. And often it is cheaper to buy with a layover than not. LA was the layover for either reason.

Starting from the Himalayas, it was likely a shorter or more direct flight to go east to get back to the US rather than through Europe, with Los Angeles being the first city the plane would land in. Typically you go through customs in the first city of the country you're visiting, which is why they detain him in LA rather than lettig him continue to NY.

Also, his journey was about coming full circle. NYC, Greenland, Iceland, Afghanistan, Himalayas, Los Angeles... all going east. It might have felt counter productive to have him get to the end of his journey, meeting Sean, then fly back the way he came. OK he did backtrack after Iceland, but still.

What Mickey said plus they needed a reason to bring the E Harmony guy on screen.
