Jolie Becoming Typecast?

I know she's done other films such as A Mighty Heart but she's played quite a few assasin type roles, such as in Mr & Mrs Smith, the Tomb Raider movies and, more recently, Wanted.

I know she's fully trained with weaponry prior to each of these roles but she's so fragile in appearance these days that she makes for quite some uncomfortable viewing - almost like accessorising a Barbie doll with a rocket launcher!!

I don't mean to sound unkind. I like Angelina Jolie but whereby they built up her physique for her role as Lara Croft, she seems way too undernourished and physically weak to be touting man-sized guns and doing all those stunts in Wanted.

She was quite tiny in Mr & Mrs Smith and it didn't seem feasible nor very convincing to see her take such hefty blows and deliver equally hefty blows onto her husband without being hospitalised!! I'm pretty sure, as a similar build, that if I took a small amount of the blows she received I'd have been bandaged and in a head to toe cast for a good few weeks, whereas she just goes to the fridge and starts eating fruit LOL

I know! She was so skinny in this film, she looked like she was going to snap the first time Brad Pitt hit her.

If a woman is trained to fight she can take the blows. Someone 4'11, 90 lbs and trained to fight can protect herself, I'm 5'10, 120lbs so i'm a big girl you would think I could fight..lol, but if someone would punch me I would go down so fast because i'm not trained, although I have been known to kick my brothers asses.

I'm 5'8" and around 112lbs so am very slender and petite and I HAVE gone down after a full-out blow myself...lol.

I've also handled weapons and even a 5lb pistol can wear your wrist and shoulder down in less than 30 seconds when held in readiness for fire. Most old-skool weaponry is bliddy heavy! But then these scenes are cut and edited because there's no way AJ could lean out of a car and shoot for a sustained length of time without becoming rapidly fatigued.

i think the fact that she is so petite is supposed to be like how well trained she is and it actually makes her look more kick ass

I don't think I've seen all of her movies, but I can't even vaguely imagine her in a role that does not need her to look grumpy. She has 2 personae, one is the brooding, disturbed, kickass heroine that will shoot you in the head for blinking out of turn. The other is the brooding, disturbed, against-the-establishment woman who is dealing with emotional crisis.

I really wish someone else was doing Atlas Shrugged. She may be perfect for the role but for this particular genre, she's too vanilla. I wish AJ was capable of making people laugh because she is undeniable one of the most beautiful women in cinema, and if you don't care about the babies and what she wore yesterday, all you have left is the movies.

I started out loving her movies, but at this point she might as well be phoning them in. She is the same character in every movie, with the same set of expressions and a maximum of 8 seconds of smile time per movie. I feel like I am just paying to watch her age into a grumpy old lady and nothing else. Because that's the only thing that changes.

I agree to an extent.

It would be interesting to see her in a comedic role. When I watch AJ giving interviews for movies she has completed, she always seems to be laughing about various mishaps. On the out-takes of Taking Lives she was such fun on set! I would like to see a bit of this transgress onto the actual movie.

There was a scene where she throws something (a gun?) at her standing mirror and the glass keeps refusing to break and the gun(?) keeps bouncing off! She found it increasingly difficult to maintain a straight face during each subsequent take!

Although she applies herself very well to her roles and prepares well, she also appears to have a fantastic sense of fun and doesn't take herself too seriously - often falling about laughing when mistakes happen as opposed to some perfectionists who storm off the set.

Milla Jovovich is typecasted. Angelina has more versatility. Changeling, A Mighty Heart, The Good Shepherd, The Fever, Gia, George Wallace...How are those assasin type roles? So she does a lot of action films, she still has shown more versatility than those who are truly typecasted like Milla Jovovich.
