SUCH mixed reviews!

I'm in the process of compiling a list of movies to watch with my family over Christmas, and I've heard of this film enough times to make me consider giving it a go. But no matter how many reviews I seek out, there seems to be a perfectly balanced good:bad ratio! For every person that classes this a classic, there's another titling it the worst movie they have ever seen!

You will only know the truth when you watch it.

Personally, I love the film, seen it maybe 10 times now. I like the family, like the actors in it. It's not perfect, parts of the film could have been dumped or changed (the scene with the sister falling off of the bus for example.) The timing of the third act is awkward. But overall most of the film works for me.

It's a Christmas film that doesn't rely on Santa Claus, or magic or outrageous situations, that alone makes it worthwhile. What happens in the film is believable, one can easily imagine these events happening to someone you know.

I agree with the other poster, you should watch it. I rated it a 6 out of 10. There are some very good parts and some confusing parts. My fave character is Meredith. But I didn't laugh at all the jokes.

It's definitely worth watching at least once. It has such a great cast. And I thought the writing was great. I'm a huge 'sex and the city fan' and so I felt that SJP did a pretty good job with it although it was tough not thinking of her as Carrie Bradshaw. I had my husband re-watch it with me yesterday and I think he shed a couple tears). Definitely a touching movie that most people will be able to relate to.
