How do you spell 'contrived'?
"T-H-E-F-A-M-I-L-Y-S-T-O-N-E"
Seeing this film for the first time after remembering it was a big release back in 2005.
What a BOMB!
Everything in this movie rings "1st year screenwriter."
The circumstances, the confrontations, the characters.
The son's girlfriend says something "offensive" at the Christmas Eve dinner table. You mean for all his liberal leanings, he never heard anything like that come out of her mouth before? (And of course nice Jewish girl Sarah Jessica Parker just jumped at the chance to play a seemingly narrow-minded character.)
There are threads on this message board that discuss whether her remarks were truly "offensive" - given the stupid writing , there really is no point debating. It happens simply to cause confrontation and drama. UGH!!!
The mom's got cancer and it's her last Christmas - more TRITE than sad.
The sons find love - unexpectedly. An engagement ring gets stuck on another girl's finger.
One son is gay AND is hard-of-hearing AND has an African-American partner - so of course he is used to no end as a symbol of "diversity."
There's so much more (really so much LESS!) but why go on???
WHAT A STUPID MOVIE!
"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"
