I gotta say. This film has a lot of flaws. Firstly, the family make you sorta hate them from the outset and I hate how they forcibly give some cheating behaviour to the main two characters, and the entire dinner table-gay-discussion scene could've been avoided. Although despite this, I thought the family dynamic was sweet, they should've focused more on them finding out the mother was sick and exploring the other siblings problems. It seemed like the story was all over the place.

Another thing I didn't like was what's so special about Meredith's sister? It was never established. She seemed bland whereas Ben was the only one nice and willing to give Meredith a chance, so that pairing seemed less forced. Also, Meredith's sister and Everett barely interacted.

not barely.... they had those scenes where they were walking and talking alone while looking for Meredith.

I love this movie!! To me, everything fit and flowed. I think that the family fell all over Meredith's sister because she was not Meredith and that made her "perfect" for Everett.

I think the entire family knew that Sybil (Diane Keaton) was sick but not as bad as it was. They knew she wasn't going to be around longer than they thought.

Idk what was so special about Julie, she was nice but IMO she wasn't any more special than Meredith but I guess anyone was better than Meredith in their opinion
