A nice movie ruined

This would have made for a nice repeat Christmas movie in my house but without the cancer story (especially the bedroom scene with the resulting mastectomy scar).

I'm not against dramas that deal with real issues such as this but it's not what I'd like to focus on around Christmas, particularly in a "comedy".

Maybe it's really a Dramedy. Drama/Comedy. That would explain the serious issues.

Ruined? The film is rated PG-13, so obviously it's going to have some adult content, but I think the scene in question it was a great moment in the film.

Kelly is the strongest and yet most under spoken character in the film, but perhaps the only one in the film who loves completely and unconditionally, regardless of the situation or circumstances.

We see this in the scene when we first see him with Thad, the scene with Ben when he tells him that his mother is dying, the scene when he drives to the Inn just to apologize to Julie and Meredith and when he refers to his new grandson as the "King of Kings".

The mastectomy scene is the only time we see Sybil scared and vulnerable, and her need for love from her husband despite what the cancer had done to her which Kelly shows that he does, completely.

I would not regard this as a comedy at all. It's a drama. I also thought the woman dying of cancer was an important cog in the wheel of the story. I know it's uncomfortable for some to watch, but it does happen, to some women!
