Why Everett and Julie?

I get the tension between Meredith and Ben, there's chemistry. Luke Wilson is the most charming character in this movie! Without him it wouldn't have been fun and I wouldn't want to watch this.

But Everett falling for Julie? Where did that come from. I mean, come on! There's no excitement. They should have had another twist. I hate when everyone needs to end up with someone. It would have been much more dramatic if there was more of a triangle between Everett, Ben and Meredith.

Everett is just so pathetic and sad all the time, which is so not Dermot Mulroney.

If they didn't have Everett pursuing Julie, so to speak, at the same time Ben was Meredith, then it would make it look as though Ben was stealing his brother's girlfriend. Even if Everett didn't love Meredith and gave his blessing it wouldn't look good on Ben's character as a person to go after her. That's how I see it.

The fault lies with Danes (who fills me with ennui at the best of times) she failed utterly to bring out any charm in her character. Mulroney - who I worship as a rule - was also stuck with a rather beige character, but I thought he made a bigger effort than Danes.

Wilson and Parker were terrific. Parker, in particular, really surprised me, I normally can't stand her.

I don't get them either. I do agree that Ben and Meredith had chemistry. They were opposites attract.

However, Everett and Julie were just sooo annoying, imo. I know he really liked her at first but every time Everett saw Julie, he had the dumbest look on his face. It was pretty pathetic looking. It's like they both lost all respect for Meredith after they met because they were both all over each other from that point on. And they only knew each other for like 2 days and he's making her try on the engagement ring?? Blahhh...
