I so hate this movie

I never mentioned how much I hated this movie when it first came out, but they keep replaying it on television and it reminds me of how much I hate it!

Could this family be anymore rude, nasty, holier than though, pretentious???...ugh! just every nasty word you can think of ....that's what I think of The Stone Family!

So they don't like someone because she is uptight and wears her hair up in a bun and isn't who they want for their precious Everett?...by the way...what a joke of a man he is!!

A houseguest is treated soooooo horribly and her sister takes off with her fiance and we are all supposed to be okay with this???? are you kidding me????

aaaw such wonderful holiday cheer....give me a break!

May this movie rot in cable limbo until it phases out forever!

Lol, I just came to the discussion board of IMDB for this movie to see if it was just me rolling his eyes after seeing this movie.
The stereo typical goody goody interracial gay couple(oh yeah, and also handicapped)and everyone is alright with it theme, reminds me of some political correct 90s movie.

Maybe the script was leftover from the 90s but Tom Hanks and Denzil Washington rejected playing the gay couple xD

I despise this movie. I haven't been able to look at Diane Keaton the same way.

SJP's character was more reserved and sedate than this family, and they acted like a bunch of slobs.

My family came from German roots, and are more conservative in their behavior also, but would never treat a guest in their home the way this family did, to SJP's character.

This is honestly one of my least favorite movies of all time. It's one of those movies that stick with you, because of how wretched it is. I cannot get over how horrible this family was, how rude and and unnecessarily mean they were to their house guest. The dining table scene was just...wow. And this is supposed to be a holiday/family movie? Ha...

Well, I hate this hot mess of a movie because a bunch of really fine actors were wasted in a contrived piece of crap which make sense only in places and then only if it is interpreted from the outside in.

I'll give you an example: During 90% of the movie the characters are fighting with, yelling at, insulting and abusing each other; while the most memorable line coming from the mother's lips is her telling everyone that she wanted all her sons to grow up to be homosexual so they would never leave her.

In the final scene, everybody is paired off, smiling contentedly and happily decorating the Christmas tree in peace, because their harpy of a mother has died and left them to get on with their lives.

Now, I don't believe that was the interpretation the screenwriter was hoping for, but it is as supportable an many others I have heard. At least the writer can't claim the directer messed up his vision, such as it was, since both are the same person.
