Meredith- Most Unlikeable Character Ever?

Honestly, I have never disliked a character more than I did Meredith. I saw a "I liked Meredith" thread, but no thread solely discussing how completely aggravating a character she is.

Movie was absolutely terrible as well. Maybe one of the most contrived films I've seen over the past couple years.

She's bad but Diane Keaton's Sybil is ridiculously grating far more than Meredith. Her raging insistence that everyone be "like" her and accept everyone despite her glaring inability to accept Meredith or a changed Everett or anything outside her circle of "approved" is taxing, irritating and ultimately horrible. Sybil, and by extension Keaton, very nearly ruins this movie all by her lonesome. Luckily, it also has pandering "lessons," intrusive liberalism (I'm liberal and still found the moral superiority and forced), cheap sentimentality, and fraudulent conveniences that contributed to the films downfall.

She was just trying to protect her family. I HATED Meredith. She is rude and stuck up and selfish. I would punch her in the face if I met her.

How was Meredith rude, stuck up and selfish?

reply

Sorry, both Amy and Sybil were completely rude.

reply

Wouldn't like to be locked up with either of them in a hotel room. But Meredith does come closer to being likeable for me. Sybil would just make me feel guilty about everything I said, thought, or did.

reply

Well put, Doctor. I agree. This movie blows. Just like Thad blows Pat.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

The movie was very contrived. However, I think I dislike the Carrie Bradshow character more than Meredith. Carrie was self absorbed.

She was the only likable character for me in the film. Ann was the worst. What an awful person.

Meredith was the most likeable character out of all of them, allthough that may not be saying much.

Honestly, I would have been happy if the rest of the family died in an explosion.Except maybe Meredith, Ben, and the other sister that hardly spoke at all.

Now THAT would have made for a much better movie than this crapfest.

I disagree. I thought she was annoying, but likeable at the same time. Poor girl tried so hard, but she just couldn't catch a break cause Amy had poisoned the rest of the family with her prejudice.

reply

Very true...and kind of pathetic on their part that they let the youngest, and most clearly immature, family member decide how the rest of them feel as well. Sybil had the same disposition towards Meredith as Amy, despite being far older and "mature", and it was just ridiculous.

reply

Right on flowers. Thought the same about Merideth. She was redeemed in the bar scenes. Just so tight wired was her character.

Meredith was the only likeable character in the film. Yes, Meredith was reserved and had some ticks but the poor girl was trying. The rest of them were determined to hate her before they even met her. They were completely aggravating obnoxious.

I thought Meredith was fine. Sure, aggravating to some at times, but pretty harmless.

I'd much rather be around someone like her than Amy Stone, who was genuinely poisonous. Most of the unpleasantness towards Meredith stemmed from her.

Sybil Stone wasn't much better.

With the exception of Ben, the whole family seemed pretty unlikeable to me.

reply

No--she was the main reason I liked the movie.
