reply

I absolutely agree! I feel like this is a perfect Christmas movie!

reply

respect. can u believe the low rating (shame on you imdb)

You do know that the ratings don't have anything to do with IMDb, right? It's IMDb users who rate the movies. For The Family Stone, the ratings are 6.2/10 from 37,110 users who rated the film. If you click on the number of users beside the rating, you will see how the ratings are broken down. For example, 3,357 (9%) of the 37,110 users gave it a 10, and 1,425 (3.8%) gave it a 1. The link also breaks it down into males, females, ages, and even non-US users. More males than females rated this movie, although there were more females (135) than males (36) under the age of 18 who rated it. Here's the breakdown for The Family Stone:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356680/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt

It's quite interesting, especially when you look at the breakdown of your absolute favorite movie compared to a movie that you totally abhor.

I love, love, love this movie!

I have seen thousands of movies in my 50+ years of life and let me tell you, this is one of the most horrible movies I have ever seen. As one reviewer said, this mgiht have well been sponsored by KKK!

reply

For me it's the best x-mas movie ever. I love every second of it. A modern day classic in my book. Smart Hollywood entertainment at it's very best.

reply

Not sure about that KKK connection, but it is indeed one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I couldn't agree more. A total waste of time. I think I spent 80% of it messaging friends (which is something I NEVER do). I was at my sister's spending xmas day, so I didn't have the option of switching off the telly.

For a film that portrayed a whacky, super free-spirited family, the two gay characters barely have any body contact (never mind kiss). On second thoughts, they might have, but probably I was so bored I never noticed.

Also, having advanced breast cancer myself, I am so, so fed up with characters dying from it... really, script writers, either be more imaginative or choose another disease when writing. The fact that I didn't feel any sort of empathy or sympathy for Dianne Keaton shows how unbelievably bad this film is.

I do not agree that this is one of the all time great Christmas movies. It's not great or even good. It's a movie and terrible at that. Opinion is mine.

reply

I hate this movie and cannot imagine why anyone would want to watch it around the Christmas holiday unless they have a horrible family and the one presented on screen makes them feel better about their own. How much did I hate this movie? My own beloved mother died when I was young (of cancer!) and I can't even watch dead-mother movies like The Land Before Time without crying. The mother in this movie was so horrible, I was actually glad that she died. I only wish more of the family had died as well.

reply

Yeah because it's so cheery and festive and really shows how to make guests feel welcome in your home.

reply

No, I think Silent Night, Deadly Night is more of a feel-good Christmas movie than this one.

reply

Terrible movie, but it made me "feel good" when the mother died so in that sense it was a feel-good movie

reply

100% agree with you. I've enjoyed this movie ever since it was released. Saw it at the theater, and have owned a couple copies of it. My girlfriend and I actually find it to be a pretty wonderful movie in general not just for the holidays. We've been known to watch it in the summer time and I actually enjoy throwing it on when I just feel like relaxing and having a drink. My girlfriend and I are actually such fans of this movie that we created a family stone trivia game. We are constantly trying to stump the other on the most minute details of the film. I'm glad to know that others enjoy this film because there seems to be so much negative feed back towards it.

reply

Really??

"Whores get *nothing*!"

reply

Yes. REALLY.

reply

I don't know how it's even possible to be this obsessed with such an inferior film.

reply

I love this film. I know it's the aim of a lot of criticism, but as the movie has gotten older, so have I and honestly, I feel sorry for the people who don't get it, for there's likely a great deal in their own lives that they're also missing.

reply

Wow, it must be amazing to be you-the poor suckers who don't appreciate this film are to be pitied because they don't share your same sensibilities and as a result, "there's likely a great deal in their own lives that they're missing". It's truly such a grandiose & narcissistic comment-especially since you don't even provide anything to back up your opinion!
Good grief, get over yourself-it's never to late to grow up-for your own sake, if not ours.
Cheers
