Diet is a four letter word.

Can anyone explain what the quote at the beginning of the movie was supposed to mean? When they were discussing the dinner she said (narrarating) "where diet is a four letter word and grease comes...something something" whats the diet is a four letter word supposed to mean?

reply

That other than being a word, it has no meaning. As in nothing there is low-fat, low-carb or diet friendly. It is 'real' food.

when someone refers to something as a "four-letter-word," they're comparing it to common swear words such as *beep* or d.a.m.n. or *beep*

it's supposed to be a joke like a diet is a four-letter-word because it's "bad" to diet at a restaurant in which there's such good food.

reply

it means that diet is just a word with four letters, nothing more. i.e., a diet doesn't mean anything to the people who eat at the diner, since the food is all deep fried and unhealthy. They just see the word "diet" as some word with four letters.
I don't think they're comparing it to swear words...

reply

No, they are comparing it to swear words. Cuss words are often called "four letter words." Hilary's character was using an analogy to show that at her dad's restaurant, the word "diet" is classified with other words you shouldn't use. (*beep*, *beep* crap etc)

reply

Yes, she is comparing it to swear words...

reply

Grease does not equal good food.

I'm anaspeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused you such pericumbobulations...

reply

Its funny though lol
