Wow...rip off the series 'Popular'...

This movie was a version of Cinderella..but stole wholesale names and characters from the WB series "Popular" which occured before this movie was made..
Examples.

Sam Montgomery ripped from Sam McPherson..( the step sisters even call Sam from Cinderella "Spam" which is what the Sam from Popular is referred to by the popular kids) Both ugly ducklings who secretly love ...

Josh Ford/ Austin Ames..star blonde homecoming type qbs who yearn to act/ write and are both bullied by hyper aggresive dads. They both date and then drop their their diva girlfriends ...

Shelby Cummings/ Brooke McQueen. In both ...the misunderstood QB's drop their girlfriends who refuse to really acknowledge/accept it.

Both Sam McPherson and Sam Montgomery have dorky boy pals..

IE Harrison John/ Carter Farell.

The format of the movie is pretty cliche, in general. I wouldn't say Popular was the first to use it.

As much as I love Popular it had it's hand in ripping off other shows as well.

There are so many films which follow this formula! Eg, she's all that.
I see what you mean about the names tho...
