I love this movie...
Yes, it can be a little cheesy at times, but I really like the message. Sam is a great role model, I think. Just because a girl is really pretty, doesn't mean she has to be a class $lut. I'm seventeen, too. And even though I've had my fair share of opportunities, I've never had my first kiss yet! To actually hear of another girl my age (although fictional), who is like me, it makes me feel a lot more confident. People always like to make fun of the virgin... and a girl in her late teens that hasn't had her first kiss yet is almost unheard of, especially when the girl is 'pretty'. It's like, why does a girl have to feel bad for not having her first kiss yet? That's so immature. I love how this movie didn't have to shove sex down our throats, like almost every other teenage movie or even movies in general, for that matter. Since I went through abuse when I was younger, it makes me really uncomfortable to have to sit through that all the time. I can't tell you how nice it is to actually ENJOY a movie, without having to see stuff like that.
Anyway, I think this movie is really cute and sweet. I can relate to the main character so much. Even though my dad's not dead, I did grow up without a father figure. He left my mom when I was younger. I'm also working hard on getting accepted to the college of my dreams. It's extremely stressful trying to study for everything and meet all these deadlines, while also making time for social things or for just a time to breathe. A lot of boys in my town are like the stupid boys they showed in the movie, too. I wish I could find my prince someday like Sam did. She was lucky.
I love how this movie is the 'modern fairytale'. I think Hilary Duff was perfect for the role. I also love the soundtrack!
I gave the movie an 8/10. It's definitely one of my favorite girl movies, along with 'What a Girl Wants'. If you love this movie, definitely check that one out!
