Rehab?or Asylum

Can anyone tell me if the ''care fascility'' depicted is accurate as an institution.I actualy work part time at a Substance abuse Home for girls, but it is basically a house where they can live and get off drugs but they can leave if they really want, they arent detained asnd its not like a clinic. In this movie which acording to the DVD comentary is filmed at a PSychiatric fascility,it looks more like an asylum or hospitol than a home.My question is has anyone been to a rehab where they have doctors,Orderlies and lock up.Is there such a place?

Yes, such places exist that are on lockdown. I've worked at places where they were locked down and patients, as they are called, cannot leave without psychiatrist approval. This is because if they are judged to be harmed to themselves or others (homocidal, suicidal) then it is the law that the hospital detain them for a few days. Some people can get irrate and dangerous and that calls for some staff to take them down (it was very accurate when Marcus and Tyler ran after B when she bolted from the hospital). Im guessing that this place was a drug/suicidal treatment facility which is common to have together in most psych hospitals. Its also common in some states to have a drug counseling program in a psychiatric hospital setting so nurses can monitor withdrawal symptoms and so they can "detox" safely.

I've never seen an "orderly" though.

Yes, such places exist where they will lock you in for limited period until they deem that you're not a danger to yourself or anybody else. They also have rooms that they lock people in, if they are especially agitated or dangerous. That's the way it works in the US, I can't say how it works in Canada.

It makes sense that they would lock Brigitte up. If they find her passed out on a street with dozens of cut scars on her arms, needle marks, and poison in her system, she obviously a danger to herself. You could expect that they would put her in to a PSYCHIATRIC facility for a few weeks in the US, but not a rehab facility. I don't know how mental health works in the Canadian provinces, however, but detaining her until minimally she is no longer dangerous to herself or anyone else would seem to be common sense. Ironically, this was one case where she was more dangerous if she was locked up.

My problem with the situation: first they put her in a rehab facility without knowing what she was taking. That's medically irresponsible.

I've seent hat a lot though. Im guessing they assumed she was taking sometihng since she did have marks on her arm where she shot up the monkshood. They just had to wait for her to wake to get her blood drawn and run tests to see exactly what she was on.

The "rehab"/detoxing palces where I've worked had all kinds of people in there- voluntary and court-ordered. Also many people who had psychiatric problems also have drug related problems (the ones who are hospitalized that is). In short, tehy mix treatment together. Im assuming youre calling it "rehab" because they had classes and group sessions? In most hospitals if you have a person being detoxed youre going to have some group therapy sessions. Its not rehab per se, but its typical to have some type of counseling available and to make it mandatory. I wasnt surprised B had to go through the "Rehab" since its so common in the US to couple these things together (perhaps to prevent relapse?)
