I felt that for a sequel, a direct-to-video sequel, that Ginger Snaps 2 was a sequel that was equal to the greatness to the first movie. I also felt that Ginger Snaps 2 was every bit as screwed up and twisted as its predecessor. The ending of it was so unexpected and dark for what it was. I loved this sequel.
"You think you can mess with me?!? I eat SyFy movies for breakfast!"
We seem to be in the minority regarding this film. This is abrilliant sequel that has the guts not to do the same thing, and take the story in an entirely unpredictable direction.
**Skin that Smokewagon and see what happens!** Tombstone
I'd call it better than the original film, in a lot of ways. However, I wouldn't really call it a werewolf film. The werewolf is incidental to the story, which is far more about interpersonal relationships and how a tragedy is the sum total of many isolated actions.
Overall, the acting is infinitely superior here, and Brigitte is far better than in Part One where her wide-eyed stares, head-down gait and Mother Hubbard costumes made her a serious put-off. And Ghost is a villain far worse than any werewolf.
I would call it a better film on a technical level (cinematography, acting, special FX, etc) but it will never be equal in scope to the first one as far as concept and, well (I don't mean to sound like a TOTAL fanboy), overall brilliance.
I did truly love GS2, though. I love the bold change in tone from the original and the rich character. It's still a 10/10 in my book.
