One of the Best Things About This (Spoilers)

Spoiler Alert!

One of the best things about Blood and Bone's story is that hero manages to save the girl without a big, explosion filled fight to the finish. He does it through subterfuge and strategy, playing the fight game and everyone around him like chess pieces, playing the part of a materialistic fighter in order to gain the crime boss Jame's trust to let him have Angela.

Something with Van Damme or Seagal would've saw Angela getting rescued in an action packed climax, but in Blood and Bone, the final battle is refreshingly not an all stakes event. Sure, he gets pressured into doing it, but his main goal has been accomplished. Unlike so many martial arts movies, the final fight isn't everything.
I even loved the touch that he forfeits the match just to screw James over some more!

He gives James a chance to walk away and leave him alone, and only hurts him in self-defense, not even killing him. This is so, so much more refreshing and in line with how martial arts protagonists should be portrayed more often, not to mention that Bone is an awesome character because he uses his brains and skills to get the job done throughout.

Blood and Bone was made at the wrong time in filmmaking. If it were released in the 90's and on back with the material it has in it, it would be a classic and Michael Jai White would've been up there with all of the action greats in terms of popularity and exposure. That said, I personally think it's one of the best martial arts movies of all time.

I loved the movie too and I agree it is a masterpiece that being said here is my 2 cents.

1. Needs a SEQUEL and a SPINOFF ("pretty boy" price needs his own movie as a hero kind of how Uri Boyka went from villain to hero in the Undisputed movies)

2. I think Bone beat Price a little too easily, the final and most difficult opponent in a martial arts movie must never be beaten too easily by the hero, this is a big flaw in the Steven Segal flicks he beats the final opponent way too easily.

3. I agree Bone's character is just AWESOME and I wish a sequel had been done that also includes backstory so we can learn just how he became such a badass.

4. Another thing that would be cool for a sequel would be an opponent who is even tougher than Price was someone who absolutely rivals Bone in "badassness" I am thinking one of the group of giant (at least seven feet tall or six foot eleven in the case of nathan jones) actors that I have seen in a few hollywood movies. Dalip Singh is seven foot four or seven foot 3 and weighs about 380. Seeing Bone have to struggle to survive as an underdog would be cool as hell.
