My problem with S.A.C.

Let me start off this post by saying that I really enjoy the Ghost In The Shell movies and series. I love the concept and some of the moral dilemmas it explores if and when technology binds with the organic. I think the animation is also top notch as well.

What drives me nuts about S.A.C. is they try to cram way too much information in one episode and there simply isn't enough time in 22 minutes to start a story and end it. I personally would have preferred a season arc or perhaps 3 or 4 episode arcs.

Did anybody else find this format frustrating? It always seemed to me that just as the show was starting to cook it would be over. Sometimes with no definitive conclusion.

I just think the Tachikomas are lame. Everything else is perfect.

A lot of the Tachikoma moments are lame, but I love the dialogue they have with themselves, especially in Ep 15 because you can actually analyze them as though they are real. If you have a lot of imagination, you can get really interesting dialogue by yourself from that episode and a few other moments.

I agree with you about their dialog having substance. I just can't stand the silly voices they give them, in both the English and Japanese versions.

reply

the voices are silly, but was probably done for their maturity level. they are very childlike, despite their intelligence, so they sound like children, now who knows maybe they'll sound more adult in the one after solid state society. probably not, they are still kids there the major had to rebuild after they sacrificed themselves at the end of 2nd gig.

i love the tachikomas! especially when one knocks on the door and an android asks who are you and the tachi goes "who me? im a Tachikoma!"

theyre so sweet. and they analyze eeevrything. and those poor uchikomans....

I agree to some extent, if you're merely watching the show on television, the amount of high-brow dialouge is so over the top, viewers may stop watching out of feeling the show is trying to be snobbish. I have the DVDs, which makes it a much better experience for myself, because if I don't get what people are saying, I can rewind and listen again. Personally, they should shoot for 40+ minute episodes instead of the traditional cartoon 22+. I know this is gonna be a weird reference, but: if Gilmore Girls can run a 40 minute show on unrealistically witty dialouge, then so can GitS.

Don't type at ME in that tone of voice!

I think you have a point, especially with regards to the 1st Gig, however they improved the structure drastically in the 2nd Gig and nearly every episode has something to do with the main story arc of the series, even if not immediately apparent.
