Technically, Cowboy Bebop is the best animated series EVER. But I own both of them on dvd and there's a reason to it.

I should have add "that I EVER seen"... but anyway, that's pretty rude to come up and say that I'm "wrong" and not giving any counter-argument.

In other words: then what would be the best animated series ever? Technically speaking, of course.

I havent seen the the entire GitS:SAC series yet but so far its pretty good. Cowboy Bebop is still my Fave Anime series

Update:

Now that i have seen every single Cowboy Bebop and Every single GitS: SAC (including Gig 1 and Gig 2) episode i can say that i find GitS: SAC to be a better anime series then Cowboy Bebop.

Impossible to say which is superior. CB is an action comedy, SAC is a straight cyberpunk drama. An equal 3 way tie for # 1: CB, SAC & FLCL. I own all 3, that's saying something.

This is comparing Apples to Tangerines. The two shows are so drastically different, there's no way to declare one better than the other.

I have to give the nod to Cowboy Bebop for style and visuals. The "cinematography" is some of the best stuff I've ever seen, animated or not. The "camera" angles, the movement, the use of shadow, the depth given by separation of foreground, middle and background... As a Director of Photography, Cowboy Bebop is truly my inspiration for my live motion picture work.

Don't get me wrong, GITS: SAC definitely has amazing visuals as well. But it tends to be very static, especially the 2nd Gig. However, it's still light years beyond what most Americans perceive anime to be.

While Cowboy Bebop gets points for being so humorous and entertaining, the complex political storyline of GITS: SAC rivals that of most television dramas ever created. I found myself deeply engaged in the storyline of the 2nd Gig; Tom Clancy's got nothing on GITS. Cowboy Bebop definitely has it's dramatic moments, and there's a subtle storyline continuum, but ironically most of the episodes stand alone more so than Stand Alone Complex.

Suffice it to say, both shows are absolutely amazing, and there's definitely room on my shelf for both sets of DVDs.

I agree, you can't really choose, because the two series' are fundamentally different. They are the tops of their respective genres.

Now for an easier-to-answer (maybe) question: Who's sexier, Motoko or Faye Valentine?

Episode for episode, Cowboy Bebop is alot more entertaining. Ghost in the Shell is for a more brainy audience. No offense. It takes some reasoning out throughout each Gig and lots of rewatching, just to comprehend all that is really happening, whereas Bebop sows each episode up tight, to where you don't HAVE to see the entire run to get the whole story....but you WANT to.

So I'd have to agree with the people that said they're different Genres and have to be treated accordingly, but my vote over all would have to be for Cowboy Bebop. It had it all.

I gotta go with GITS:SAC.
