I hope so!

i'm positive there will, as many questions were still unanswered.. (will Kuze and Motoko ever meet again; unresolved political issues (the refugees, global problems like the American Empire..); backgrounds on Ishikawa, Borma..; the puppetmaster and the 'next society' etc.)

+ among other things i think two seasons and one film isn't nearly enough for an extraordinarily detailed universe such as which SAC provided (as compared to the other GITS universes for example)

reply

Kuze was killed. Unless he pulled off his "transfer consciousness to the net" trick, no, they won't.

The end of Solid State left it open, so I hope they do.

But Production I.G. has a lot on their plate lately. It would be interesting to get at least 1 or 2 more seasons of it since all good sci-fi shows die at 4 seasons. lol

I really like how Motoko fell apart at the end of 2nd gig, and in Solid State she left Section 9 only wanting to comeback. And of course how unstable Batou is when the Major isn't in charge.

All I know is I'd want one since the series got better the longer they did it. But damn the Individual 11 was such a great story, it'd be hard to top it.

reply

well look at it this way...CBS has had enough material for not 1, not 2, but THREE series of CSI for how many years now? doesnt seem to me that they wouldnt have enough ideas for at least one or two more seasons of SAC or even just a couple more OVA's like SSS.

dare to dream :)

reply

This is true. As stated before, SSS leaves it wide open. ***Spoilers. I mean, does Koshiki make another appearance considering the chance that his ghost is out there? And what about Kuze? they wouldn't just show him for a few seconds in SSS just to show how many people Motoko has known. I think the ending of both SSS and 2nd Gig gives hope to a possible return of Kuze. When you think about it, the main antagonist/culprit of the 1st season (Aoi) simply said he had no interest in being a team player, therefore they left it at that (for now?). but with Kuze, you have to wonder what he meant by going on ahead? Yes the Tachikomas used some of the reserved space to preserve themselves but what it Kuze also used that space for himself? He could simply be going the route of movie Motoko and surf the infinite entity known as the net. Besides, there is also a chance that Motoko didn't use that gathered space in cyberspace in order to restore the Tachikomas. If I remember correctly from "PAT" from 2nd Gig, Dr. Asuda said that his plans for the ideal AI would eventually be leaked to the net. Could this be how the Major restored the Tachikomas?

reply

I think that they deliberately left some things open just in case they wanted to make another season. As someone else noted, there are several characters that we know little to nothing about. Their back stories were never fully fleshed out. That was purely intentional, no doubt.

Yeah, CSI is not a good comparison whatsoever.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC is structured eerily similar to The X Files if one thinks about it. The X Files managed to last such a long time, and remain fresh, by having mythology episodes that tied into a much larger plot and individual episodes that had no bearing on the mythology episodes. This allowed back story, changes of pace, and some creative side episodes that can be watched alone with little knowledge of the series.

The problem for the Ghost in the Shell: SAC writers would not be the standalone episodes. In fact, they could make many, many standalone episodes and they'd probably never go stale. Their problem would be with creating larger story arcs like they did with Kuze and The Laughing Man. What do you guys think about maybe a third GiG that would focus SOLELY on standalone episodes? I think it would work, especially since some of the best episodes in the series were standalone episodes.

i see what ya'll are saying but i think you missed my point. happens, ive been told im not always clear. my bad.

what i meant was that if a show like csi, and it was just an example, can spin off into 3 shows with arguable success, then a show like gits can continue on for a good while without going stale, cheesy or predictable.

basically if hollywood crap can go forever then quality can go more than 2 seasons and a movie with no problems.

past that i agree lol
