I absolutely adore GitS, but hated Innocence.
Picked up the first vol of this show yesterday and watched the first episode and thought it was complete rubbish. Am I being too harsh? Should I plough on?
Let me know or it's going in the bin!
I bought this series because I liked the original film and really enjoyed it, obviously some episodes are better than others but over all I thought it was a good series.
I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler
You definitely have to give it a chance. The first episode is somewhat bland, it picks up when it gets into the Laughing Man storyline. Then the second season, to me anyway, is that much better than the first. Stand Alone Complex does feel different from the original movie and Innocence, so I guess it will depend on what you liked about the first movie. I like them all, and for different reasons. But yeah, don't judge the whole thing on that first eppy.

Innocence was a lot better than GITS in my opinion. It had some of the most beautiful images I have ever seen in a movie, live-action or otherwise. The Chinese parade alone took over a year to animate. I also preferred the overall plot and the more direct approach to Phillip K Dick's concepts of questioning humanity through the exploration of androids and augmented human cyborgs.
I didn't quite get it first time so I recommend watching it a few times. Oh and Stand Alone Complex is amazing too.
