did kuze suceed? (spoilers)

(contains spoilers to the series and the movie "solid state society")

Kuze's last words were "i'll go on ahead" which implies that he will upload himself to cyberspace like he dreamed of. Some people believe that he couldn't have done it due to the fact that the tachikomas didn't create the cyberspace the major ordered them to, but I believe they did create enough room for Kuze's ghost while debating eachother. However, by the end of solid state society, the major hints that throughout the years she quit section 9 she has been searching for Kuze but couldn't find him. Now it is pretty strange that someone as powerful as the major can't track someone down on the net over such a long period of time.

So what do you guys think happened to Kuze's ghost?

reply

The Major never said she was looking for Kuze.

reply

she did right at the end of SSS

reply

At the end the major said:

"In retrospect what I was thinking back then? What was I looking for, when I decided to sojourn the net alone and loitering? The truth? My true self? Or that special someone? Perhaps I was projecting the frustration at my own helplessness into the system."

There is no reference to Kuze. The special someone could be a person to rely on, she does not mention Kuze.

I agree with charlieddayton that Motoko was most likely for something or someone in general in regards to give her life meaning again, although she probably did search for Kuze at least at the start. Maybe she met his ghost after all but decided that his way of 'life' wasn't for her and so kept searching. Or maybe she didn't find him at all cos (1) Kuze failed or (2) he was keeping himself hidden.

Who knows? I think that part of the Major's life was intentionally kept mysterious, in keeping with her character, and in keeping with how in the film, even she didn't know exactly what herself was up to.

The reason I believe she was referring to Kuze is because she left right at the end of the 2nd gig.
In the last few scenes of 2nd gig it was very obvious that she was not focused on doing her job, Aramaki and the other guys even commented on it. Then she ordered them to go somewhere and said she was going to join up with them later. When Batou was about to leave he saw something in her but didn't comment, all this in addition to the tone of the music before the credits makes me believe she left section 9 at that moment, which was obviously because of Kuze.
