Searching for a similar cartoon film from the past - Please help!

Please help movie- and cartoon geniuses!

I'm looking for an old cartoon film that also has giant robots (or people/one guy in a giant robot suit).
I guess it was made in the 60's or 70's by the looks of it... can't quite remember, i saw it at a very young age and now i'm over 30.

Unfortunately, the only thing i can remember (in the end of the movie) is this guy "fighting" against the robot and he was standing on the robots palm, then the robot blew a strong "wind" from its mouth... (???) Also, there was maybe a woman standing on the palm and the man tried to rescue her... The cartoon had this strong steampunk -theme and the robot(s) was very similar to the robots in this film.

Does anybody have a single clue what it might be?

PS. It's not Gigantor :)

The robots in this movie were based on the ones in The Mechanical Monsters (1941), but the cartoon you saw sounds like a different one. But then again, maybe it could be what you saw, and you don't remember it quite as it was due to your young age when you saw it. Here's a link to "The Mechanical Monsters" on Youtube:

Yeah, i already checked out 'The Mechanical Monsters' a long time ago and it wasn't it. :/

The movie i saw had a very same sort of "dark atmosphere" as in Sky Captain.
I can also remember that it had very little musical score, the tone and pace was very slow and "peaceful".

The robot looked very much like The Iron Giant (1999).

But then again, i could be totally wrong and the "movie" i saw was only just a dream :D
