What did "lens cam" mean?

"Lens cap." Polly had waited and saved that last exposure for something great, but, when she finally took the picture, she forgot to remove the cap covering the lens, so she wasted that last photo.

The funny part is the lense cap wasn't on.

It was a rangefinder, you don't look through the lens on them.
