Art Deco theater

Taking into account that Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a miraculous tribute to the age of Art Deco architecture and design, did anyone see this movie in an actual Art Deco theater?

I had the opportunity, but I missed out. It was screened at the Avalon Theatre (1929, Spaulding & Webber) on Catalina Island off the coast of California in October 2004. To have made that trip would have been a dream come true, but it was financially not possible. This transcendent film almost begs for revival in an architecturally-significant old-world movie palace. Oakland's Paramount Theatre, anyone? Too much for words!!!

That would've been terrific for sure! I love Art Deco architecture myself and the whole shebang of the "Roaring '20s" to the "Warring '40s" and onto the "Fabulous '50s"! I found the film a wonderful homage to the resplendent era that was. It even reminded me of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," a boyhood favorite of mine!

I did not see it in any theater (I like the Paramount Theater idea btw). Admittedly, it took me a while to get around this one because as much as its style appealed to me, the fact that only the actors looked “organic” was originally a turn off.

Although I couldn’t be more in agreement. Seeing any film that pays tribute to (or was filmed during the time of) the Art Deco era in a real Art Deco theater would be grand.

Unfortunately, I did not get to see this movie in an Art Deco-era theater.
