Post apocalyptic novels?

Can anyone recommend any good post-apocalyptic novels? I'm buying Rage for my brother's birthday along with Doomsday and I want to get a book to round off the post-apocalyptic theme. I'm looking for THE classic post-apocalyptic novel, the Dune or Forever War of the irradiated wasteland. I've toyed with Damnation Alley. Anyone read that?

P.S. My brother has already read The Road.

Earth Abides might fit your interests. Amazing book. Fairly old but holds up incredibly well.

It's a book about an order of monks who live in a post atomic holocaust Earth.
