Fertilisation Quistion (Jodie Foster)

I just saw this film, Jeunet is a great artist!

I was just wondering about a thing in the Jodie Foster scenes. She has to have sex with a fertile man, to try to save her husband from the war. I have seen this concept in other movies and books before, with various circumstances. Childlessness, gay couples etc. But isn't there a much simpler and non-complicated solution to this problem?

Isnt it possiple for a woman to get pregnant by artificial insemination with simple primitive methods at home, if she has a fresh able sample of sperm at hand? It must be simple tools you need for that kind of operation, am i right? It could have saved their marriage of its jealousy problems.

But them again, i think Jodie character enjoyed the good shagging ;)

I highly doubt artificial insemination was a common practice during WWI

I dont mean like the way its going on in a modern clinic, where you take out the egg, fertilise it and put it up again.

What i mean is using an instrument in stead of the penis. Like this for instance: http://www.digitalfotoonline.dk/articles/453/blowbulb_250.jpg

(Link is dead. And "incriminate" means to bring an accusation against someone.)

Sperm die once they've been taken out of a body. Unless that instrument had the proper environment for sperm to live in, they would have died before reaching the finish line.

Does that help answer your question?

What if she's REEEALLY quick with a turkey baster?

i've heard of the turkey baster/group of male "donors" technique before. i guess it's been used, unless this is some kind of urban legend.
