Just Watching Again + Need Help w/questions

April 27, 2013

Whose finger with a college ring was delivered to him? anyone know why?

It's not the easiest film to follow if you don't memorize the names of all these characters! I forget who's who and why did his German secretary get shot? The Russians?

Thanks in advance if anyone answers

PS what was the gold thing John Tutourro(?) gave Laura in front of the restaurant? Was it something he had given her or vice versa? Thanks

The agent was told by Matt Damon's character not to wear his college ring down in the country where the Mayan Coffee Company was operating. Obviously he didn't heed the suggestion.

The agent was warned not to wear the ring... obvious he did wear it, and he paid for his stupidity with his life.

The "gold thing" was something Laura left behind when they were together years earlier -- recall he actually ran out to try and give it back to her at the time, but she had already gone (my memory is rusty of the exact details). He sent it back to her signal that it was over between them.

The German secretary got shot because he suspected she was a double agent. She was supposed to be deaf, but he called her name and she reacted slightly suggesting that she could actually hear and was just pretending to be deaf. I think it is interesting that he had experience with deaf women (Laura). Anyway, I think he suspected that her hearing aid was actually a recording device. He might have been wrong because she said she was deaf in one ear, but he was not above killing first rather than bothering to prove that she was a double agent.

The gold thing is Laura's gold cross and chain. Years earlier, she had taken it off from around her neck when she was undressing in the hotel room with Edward when they start to make love.
