Although De Niro plays a general quite well in this film, his screen time is very brief. William Hurt and John Turturro are given larger roles.

it was good.

Key to winning baseball games? Pitching, fundamentals, and three run homers.-Earl Weaver

reply

He plays the same character he did in Meet the Parents.

"Passion is just insanity in a cashmere sweater!"

He's awful. He doesn't move, at all, and he's completely unconvincing when delivering his lines. It's as if he put zero effort into his on-screen role so as to focus entirely on his directorial responsibilities.

reply

Why Awful? He was playing a WW1 vet who was a Republican chosen by FDR to start an Intel service. One of the best lines in the film was ' no negros, jews and very few Catholics and that's only because I'm Catholic.'
