I love it. From connecting the dollar scene from the beginning to connection the final scene "it costs a dollar". To the relationship with Clover and the seeking of truth in it.
The normal qualities of man. The qualities of society and the balance.
This movie was way ahead of it's time.
I love it.
Anyone with me? I know there are haters out there - this one is just for us who loved it.
I love it. The acting, the story line, superb. I love Matt Damon in this, he is quiet more than he speaks in this yet I could watch him play this character for hours.
The patient's screaming disturbing me, performed removal of vocal chords. ~Zombie Holocaust
When I first watched it about 10 years ago, I didn't really understand it. But I just watched it again, and I like it a lot. It had a ton of potential to be a great film, but it held up for me. It's an interesting world. The secret societies, murder, corruption. Plus it had a great cast. And it wasn't over the top with car chases and silly story lines. Very good, definitely worth sitting through at least once.
I love this movie. I was already a Le Carre fan when this movie came out and had been craving more films in that style. I see this as the Le Carre meets Godfather treatment of the CIA...and to me that's awesome.
First... Most of these characters are take-offs on real people.
You can watch it for entertainment or you can project some things from the character's actions... which really happened. Like the "molehunt" involving a real defector who tore CIA apart with his idiot theories and refusal to believe any other Russian spook was legit and not a double agent.
The Film looked great. DeNiro did a far better job than I thought he would.
I know right! It's an awesome compelling movie in my book. One of the best of the genre. Much better than Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy if you ask me...
It seems that i love de Niro's directional style since both his movies, A Bronx Tale and The Good Sheppard, received a 9/10 from me.
As for TGS, i found it neither too long, nor boring at all. I felt drawn into the story 10 min in and found every minute of it really solid and convincing.
Loved the performances, the heavy stuffy atmosphere, the slow and cold cinematography, the pacing, and most of all, i loved the story.
But i suppose, i can see how it's not everyone's cup of tea since there are many similar movies out there such as TTSS mentioned above, that are just as slow and cold, devoid of any emotions that i didn't manage to appreciate.
For some reason, TGS really worked for me.
People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²
It could've been a good movie if it weren't so weighed down with scenes and subplots that aren't necessary. Sure, some of them are there simply to show how deep the character has fallen into the evils of the CIA and espionage which resonate with the final scene, but they could've been even more effective if they were more compressed. The performances aren't above average and the length of the film coupled with its dull atmosphere make it difficult to sit through. A 5/10 for an average movie that just missed the mark.
The back up guy to the Russian Ulysses needs some cash to buy a small gift at souvenir stand. He says its for his kid, and excuses himself. Looked like he bought a small snowglobe. This was at the meet-up in a DC Smithsonian type museum...
Mother gives him one of his special $1 bills that could be used to signal / ID (i guess by the serial #) that they want a meet-up. Says, its a "courtesy from the US gov't " so a small gift... as a wise crack, Ha Is the #2 Russian a double agent for the CIA in the making??? WDYT
