Yep, it's genuine and can be hell for some sufferers to live with. No cure either.

Ok thanks, but on the case of this movie is only a reaction to some food, no? I mean if Ben Stiller character dont eat this kind of food, he well be ok?

The illness itself can have many triggers, though yeah - in this film it appears that spicy food seems to be his main trigger.

Although I have wondered if the reason he is so adverse to risk is because of stress avoidance also (another possible triggger of his)?

This is a bit unclear communication.

How can stress avoidance be a trigger to anything?

Also, trigger of HIS, and not the syndrome's?

25 years or so ago there was a med. named 'Combid' and it worked great for IBS.
The Feds had it taken off the market for some reason having to do with it containing 2 meds. in one - which I never full understood as there are many meds ie Tylenol #3 that combine 2 but hey, maybe I didn't understand the explanation properly. Anyhow, I had my last Rx for it and when I brought it into the pharmacy the pharmacist told me 'last one, we are now out of them with your re-fill'...this is how I found out actually. I protested but of course it made zero difference. Thee pharmacist told me he understood how I felt as he was receiving calls from all over the area - people trying to locate a pharmacy that had some left in stock. NOTHING has ever worked like that med for IBS.
Went back to my doc and he prescribed me Librium. Did nothing. Long story short, I eventually left the line of work I was in which helped some but finally was told to take a double dose of Metamucil every day for a week and see how it goes.
Think it was 2 weeks for me (this was back in the mid 80's) and I was free of IBS.Oh, I used to buy coffee beans that had almonds mixed in with them. Eliminated this also and poof....gone for good ! Hope something here helps someone/anyone suffering with IBS because it was a NASTY little condition !
Days balled up in a fetal opposition 'cause of the 'cramping' feeling.

You should consult a physician before taking any course of action as in the above description because you may mis-diagnose yourself and when you have something more serious/different going on medically and/or the above might be contraindicated for your particular condition. I WAS diagnosed with 'IBS' by a physician after numerous tests were run on me and my doctor approved my Metamucil trial.
