Not enough time - potential spoiler?

I felt bad for Reuben, he was such a nice guy. Maybe a little boring and routine, but he didn't deserve what he got. I was glad that he met Polly and things were going along well with him, but I guess I didn't realize how fast (or slow) time was moving in the movie.

Just after they run into his parents at the restaurant and she blurts out the bit about his wife, he tells Polly it has only been two weeks. Sorry, but even what his wife did to him there is no way that Polly should start to fall in love with him. He is still in a world of pain from the incident, and in no position to start a relationship. She should have second thoughts about dating him just knowing that he is married, but especially after only being dumped two weeks ago. Heck, he probably hasn't even received any bills from the wedding yet.

IMO, it is still too fresh and painful to Reuben. He may think he is falling in love with Polly, but in his state of mind he should just be concentrating on one day at a time, not how to date and bed the next girl that comes along.

Thoughts?

Well Polly says she's not doing that.

Let's not forget, it's a rom-com and he's just happened to stumble in to an attractive Polly that he used to know in middle school. I think it's pretty clear for much of the film, that Polly is interested in him, without totally committing herself until the end.🐭

I think that he had feelings for Polly from back when they were in school. Lets face it, you never forget your first love, and she was probably "it" for him. But then she moved away and he never saw her again, until after his disastrous marriage fell apart. I can understand that he would want to grasp something pure and innocent from his youth, rather than pursue a woman who lied and cheated and gave him pain.

I'm in a glass case of emotion!"

It seems like he was more in love with the idea of being married than with Lisa.

I would guess they weren't really married, most people don't go file with the the court and all if they leave for a honeymoon straight away.
