I agree, she was not "all there" mentally and didn't deserve to be executed. That being said, she did seem to want to die in the end so I'm glad she got what she wanted. If there is an afterlife, I hope she found peace.

There is no afterlife and she didn't find peace. She was murdered by the authorities and now she is a skeleton.

"Do you think it's really a good idea to jingle all the way?"

Yes :( Life is brutal and weird.

And you know this because...?

The problem I have with Life in Prison is that all the government money spent on these inmates. on Food, clothing, entertainment, heating, water, electricity, some get to earn college degrees... That money could go to better our schools, our society, help keep children off the streets (future inmates) Our tax money going to sustain life to people who will never be free again, is just wasteful.

I also don't understand why it takes "millions of dollars" to kill someone on death row. Give me a cyanide tablet and it's done. Two to make sure.

"And you know this because...?"

I know there is no afterlife because it makes no logical sense, and there is absolutely no real evidence for it outside of pseudoscience. "Afterlife" is made up, and belief in it requires irrational acceptance of an imaginary story.

She only wanted to die because she was emotionally drained after years of being kept in a small cell for most of any 24 hour period. People in these conditions on Death Row often just want it over with after years of incarceration to put an end to the constant anxiety and not knowing when there days are finally up.

When appeals fail time and time again there's not much else to focus on and Aileen just wanted her DW to be signed and to be executed, I think most of us would in that situation and after a prolonged period of time.

But I do agree that she shouldn't have been executed but then I have always opposed the DP. Only "God" or whatever higher authority is out there surely has that right. Effectively all executioners are sadistic killers themselves right? I can't imagine what sort of person could do that job and live with themselves. You may only be flicking a few switches as part of a team or pulling a lever but you still play a part in taking another life.

I felt very sorry for Aileen and came away from Nick Broomfield's documentary even more concerned about her state of mind. I don't think even Aileen knew truth from lies at the end unless she was just trying to maintain she killed in cold blood to hurry up her execution (as opposed to claiming self-defence earlier on).

Nobody knows what the truth is or was and I feel sorry for the victims too if they were innocent and had not in any way harmed her or threatened to harm her.

It's rarely the people at war, it's the megalomaniac leaders at war.

I think most people on death row aren't "all there" mentally. Serial killers aren't just "evil," they are seriously disturbed.

reply

Yeah I agree she didnt deserve to die, even though what she did was wrong. So sad

i have to believe that the 5, or 6 previous posters that agree that this ahem, person, didn't need to die don't believe in capital punishment at all, not just for aileen wuornos

because if you agree that this woman didn't deserve the death penalty, then you'll never believe anyone deserves the death penalty

but, i for one, think her crimeS, her capital crimeS, more than warranted the death penalty, glad she got it, sad that it took 10 years to kill her and hope her corpse was cremated

I agree. She needed mental help instead in my opinion. All her life, she had been betrayed and let down by the people she cared about, so of course she got a twisted mind and went paranoid.

After having such a tough life, she were executed. I think she deserves (and deserved) respect. It's incredibly sad.

reply

the respect is getting a trial and being judged by her peers and not being shot once behind the ear in a field like a dog (which actually is how she killed many of her victims)

am i sad that she was raped? sure...but i'm far far far sadder for the kids of the men she killed that have to grow up fatherless, the women that were widowed, parents that children die before them..THAT is sad...

Deserves respect? How about you read the reality of what happened, and not buy into this fictionalised crap which gave credence to the killer's insane defence ramblings. This is about as credible as pretending she was possessed by aliens when she did it.

reply

are you dumb?? she was a killer..she dont deserve peace

If you want to respect a murderer, go on ahead and respect her. But don't expect the rest of us to follow your lead.

I'm sure there's argument for mental illness in the case of ANY serial killer. Let's face it, what sane person would commit serial murder? There has to be something wrong with them even if it's the case of them being a sociopath who has no empathy for others. She got what she deserved. Tough upbringing and mental illness isn't a good thing, but it's no excuse for becoming a cold blooded killer.

reply

Depends on what you mean by "sane." She knew what she was doing. She robbed her victims and took their vehicles. She would likely have continued to do it until she was physically stopped. Unfortunately for her she did it in Florida.

reply

She was a cold-blooded killer. She wasn't insane.

You kill a bunch of people. Yeah then you deserve it. It dosn't matter if the victims were men or women.

reply

WRONG

This woman absolutely deserved to die

You people are disgusting.

I bet if this movie was about a man in the same exact position... like a more relatable Jeffrey Dahmer, you people would be all for the death penalty.

Judging from this film alone, let's take a look at the lives she destroyed. Not only did she murder several innocent men, she took that very innocent man away from his family. Murder is and will always be much worse than rape for that reason. Not only are you taking away every choice a person has or will ever have, you're also emotionally attacking their loved ones. If you were the wife or child of one of the men she killed, I highly doubt you would ever say, "Poor Aileen. She deserved to be treated better."
