They went thought all that trouble and money to try and retrieve the DVD but they could have just acquired Walter from the beginning. Was it because Walter was confirmed dead at the hospital earlier on? I might have missed something, it got a little convoluted. Enjoyable and intense movie anyway.
shareyep, you see somebody phone the hospital and be told that Walter is dead, it's made very obvious that it was the kidnappers calling, meaning they believed the DVD to be their only hope
later in the movie the masked man isn't sure Walter can tell them anything useful because he's taken some head trauma which is well documented to risk memory damage amongst other things so he tests him
