Desperately needs a remake

The CGI looks like PS3 graphics at this point. It needs a new coat of paint, maybe even utilizing the same 3D effects engine that Mr. James Cameron is utilizing in the avatar movies. Imagine how great it would be to have the snow pop out of the screen as you watch this movie.

REMAKE IT!

Is there a word for remaking the video, but leaving the audio intact? Remastering? Re-rendering?

They could leave the movie exactly as-is, just redo the video to today's standards.

To me, remake implies doing everything over again, including the voice acting.

The movie is like a bad dream.🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

reply

it truly is a nightmare. it barely makes sense. it jumps from nonsense scene to nonsense scene for no reason. its like every incoherent nonsensical nightmare ive ever had

I enjoy the movie up until when the Polar Express reaches the North Pole after that the movie kind of falls apart.

reply

Ha, that is exactly what I just posted below. Yes, the first act of the movie on the train is pretty good, but once the trains pulls into the Polar Express the movie goes to hell and gets pretty strange. I actually find the film uncomfortable to watch at that point because it's just weird. I get that the book is very short and so you'll have to invent new story elements to fill it out to feature length, but surely there's a better story to be told that what Zemeckis gave us.

It's also why the Jim Carrey Grinch movie doesn't work for me as the overbloated story is terrible.

reply

I still remember going to see The Grinch at the theater back when it was first released and being disappointed by it. But I don't think it's the train wreck that Polar Express is, or at least that Polar Express becomes after the first act. I can still watch The Grinch and enjoy it fairly while. I think that Polar Express becomes unwatchable once the train arrives at the North Pole.

I don't think it needs a remake, but I believe they can give it a "new coat of paint" by just addressing the dead eyes the kids have. It's like looking at Victorian post-mortem pictures.

While this movie probably cost a fortune to make at the time it was, 20 years of computer advances in hardware and modelling suggest that this can be done cheaply or even by a fan in a couple of years..

reply

It cost $150 million to make.

Yikes.

I think in 20 years a person could probably make this movie on his iPhone...

reply

Since it probably took a couple of years to make that's probably one of the most expensive movies made in 2004.

reply

What it needs is for someone to make a new Polar Express but with a completely different ending from Zemeckis's version. I like the movie up until the point where they arrive at the North Pole but then it gets weird and creepy. I always turn the movie off at that point, which is a shame, because the first act is pretty good.

was having one version of this POS to suffer though not enough? we need a second one? the movies already dead in the cultural Zeigeist. we dont need it to assault us again.

Look maybe when you read the books the story and all the plot and this stuff makes sense. but none of it does when you watch it.

also some genius online wrote this about the PE ". The Polar Express is about a kid who was kidnapped, molested and shown a life of horror. To start off the conductor told him to hop on a train and it’ll take him to the North Pole(kidnapper), what happens when he’s punching his ticket? The little pieces fall on his face while the conductor looks down on him(he’s been nutted on), he is then guided by a clear crackhead who tries to help him through his journey, the northern lights seeing all the colors and being mystified is him being drugged and seeing all the pretty colors and loving it. Hot chocolate could be symbolic for some other shit like NyQuil or whatever cause it relaxed all the kids on this “ride to the North Pole”. Train going down the steep hill could be a bad trip from the drugs and I can go on but y’all know the movie y’all can make your own connections to different scenes meaning different things. It’s a long shot, but this movie could definitely have a much darker back story then we think."
