Nicole's short hair look

Nicole looks gorgeous with short hair. Anyone knows - Did she really cut it for the movie?

reply

No, she had a wig on. But I really liked her look. Very nice.

I like her with her usual long hair. I find her extremely beautiful normally. But with this short hair, I can't see her as good looking at all. Short hair like that is a big mistake for 99.999999% of women. Naturally not everybody will share my opinion.

You putrid toad. Every woman on Earth should have her hair cut exactly like Kidman's in this film. Not one single exception.

reply

I agree with you, actually.

She actually looks a bit like Judy Garland in this film. :)

She looks a little like Judy Davis with the wig.

But I totally love that haircut on her, so good.

I'm not a fan of short hair, but I thought her look was perfect for this movie. If she had long hair, she might appear too sensusal & seductive which might've given the movie a creepy paedophilic vibe. Instead, she comes across as beautiful but somewhat sexless, a lot like Audrey Hepburn.

I usually prefer long hair, but I loved Nicole's look in this film.

Hello, Rooprect! Fancy meeting you here, but I guess I shouldn't be too surprised because you have excellent taste.

That's an excellent observation about the short hair conveying innocence, almost a boyish look, which makes the bathtub scene much less creepy. Nicole reminded me of Mia Farrow here, but Audrey Hepburn is an excellent comparison.

It also seems like Nicole's face was much more natural here, certainly compared with more recent roles. That long shot of her watching the concert and trying unsuccessfully to compose her thoughts was almost devastating in its honestly. This is a beautiful, nuanced performance by an actress whose cosmetic choices have drawn attention from her talent as of late.

Hey Warpage! How's it been?? I've been going through a film lull for a while, basically picking up any DVD that's in the used $2 pile at my local vid store, so my artistic standards may not be what they once were... but hey there's a lot to be said for Steven Seagal ;)

Everything you said about Nicole is spot on. This is the first film where I really took her seriously, and I agree the concert scene was powerful ...and daring on the directors part for leaving the camera on her for so long, because a poor performance could've really killed the whole thing. As it turned out, wow.

After seeing Nicole in this, I went on a mini Nicole Kidman spree; I finally watched Dogville which I'd been putting off--excellent film; I also picked up The Others--another great performance by NK; and I watched The Stepford Wives remake--well... 2 out of 3 ain't bad!

Of all her looks, I have to say the short hair look in Birth is the most memorable, captivating & effective. By the way, don't pelt me with popcorn for saying this but, I've never seen a Mia Farrow film. Can you believe that??

Hello, Rooprect:

Great to hear from you! Sorry for the delayed reply. Lots of distractions in my life lately, none of them good.

It sounds like you've seen the best of Nicole's films, at least in my opinion. "Dogville" is an intense experience. It took be awhile to get into that film, but once I did, I was mesmerized. "The Others" is a beautiful and haunting ghost story, more sad than scary (which is to its credit). And yes, the "Stepford Wives" remake is as close to an unwatchable film outside of those "Meet the Spartans"-type atrocities. She's also terrific in "Margot at the Wedding."

I miss the days when I could just enjoy Nicole's films instead of being bombarded with the other facets of her life. And as much as I'd like to say that it doesn't matter what she looks like, it's hard for me to ignore some of her cosmetic choices when her face doesn't fit the role.

And you really haven't seen a Mia Farrow film? Not even one of the Woody Allen movies? Remarkable!

Hey WR, I'm finally catching up on some of these imdb discussions. Like you, I've had a lot of distractions, none good. I hope you're dealing with yours, or at least writing a killer screenplay about it all :)

A local Blockbuster is going out of business, and I've been snatching up DVDs at rock bottom prices. I keep seeing Nicole Kidman titles, but I'm never sure if they're the good ones or the duds. Something tells me they're the duds, but I may go back & grab a few anyway. I can't even remember the titles... one of them is a white DVD cover with everything else in red. Looks like a cheesy action/thriller.

The Stepford Wives remake was on sale for $3. I passed.

But the main thing I wanted to talk about, as usual completely off-topic from this thread, was Woody Allen. I haven't had much luck enjoying his films, probably because (probably unfairly) I keep associating his storylines with his own personal life. The only two I've seen are "Mighty Aphrodite" and "Whatever Works", both good films but when you consider the autobiographical themes of old men & young girls, it's a little hard for me to take at face value. In fact, I think we may have talked about this before--at what point do we separate the art from the artist? Are they two separate things, or are they extensions of each other? I recall we talked about Roman Polanski, Bernardo Bertolucci and another director you mentioned who really went too far in real life. I should dig up that thread, wherever it was (Fabulous Stains board?), because I still haven't resolved the answer in my head!
