Since the budget was $25 million, On the Road was deemed ineligible to qualify for an Indie Spirit award. Anyway...
How is this film horrible, un-watchable and bad.
While the acting is decent and the cinematography is nice, the film has its problems. I think it's devoid of character development, lacks a cohesive narrative and rambles on without anything important to say. If you want a see a better movie of a young man wandering through life and meeting new people, I suggest you watch
Waking Life (2001).

On the Road would have been more successful, at least critically.
