The original scroll or the first published version?

I've read both, and I personally prefer the original published version to the scroll. But both were enjoyable.

both have pros and cons. '57 is more conventional, with paragraphs and chapters — scroll is one long paragraph -- as it was originally written.
'57 may be better for a first timer -- but the scroll is complete and unedited.
Read the original published version. It's the one people have known and loved for half a century. Then I would suggest reading some of his other stuff (Dharma Bums is a highly recommended follow up) before finding your way to the original scroll.
