Leave it to Millennials to mess up a classic

Had On The Road been done by an earlier generation(which is was close to being done on several occasions), with possible actors like Johnny Depp(would of been perfect), Brad Pitt or Ethan Hawke and directed by Coppola it would of been a hit. It was a flop. An immortal book which inspired many youth, including myself, it was reduced to muck by lightweight actors of this current generation. Such a disappointment to see Jack Kerouac's timeless classic ruined.

There is one positive thing in this movie. I didn't know Jack Kerouac before I saw the movie, and now I'm a huge fan of this writer (and from other writers from the beat generation).

yea, he is timeless. Seems every generation's youth like that era of beatniks, goatees, coffeeshops, poetry. Bob Dylan grew out of that are, as did folk music. A cool era. The book is far better than the movie.

There's a cool song by 10,000 Maniacs called Jack Kerouac. I like this version with pics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zgoSXnDZ_M

The book is far greater than the movie of course (but I found the one playing Neil Cassady very good in the movie), I read the two versions of it, but at the end I prefer the one that was first published (not the originl scrolls).

Nice song from 10000 maniacs.
