Parallel with 'Somewhere in Time'
I love this movie, and watched it again today. For the first time, it hit me that the "story" behind the pearl painting and the photo of Elise in "Somewhere in Time" were similar.
In both cases, the subjects were looking at the object of their desire when the painting/photo was made, and that is what makes them both such striking images. Something you might not realize when you look at them, but after learning about the "backstories" it makes sense.
The scene in which Tom Wilkinson's character was staring at the painting made me feel like he was trying to pretend the girl had been longing for him.
