Thank goodness Kate Hudson and Kirsten Dunst pulled out
Not that I have anything against them at all, but Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth just came together so well, I can't imagine any other high profile actors in their roles.

shareKate Hudson!!! Surely this is a joke. I shudder to think....

It was perfect casting. Scarlett is very underrated.

Agreed, they were both fantastic in this film. Colin Firth does non-verbal emotion soooo well.
shareScarlett was good as Griet. She dont speak much, but its all in her expressions. The way she uses her face to communicate is a great method, that sadly underused in today's acting.
She says so much with just a look, and that's good acting.
But I actually think that Kirsten Dunst would've easily be as great as Scarlett. Kirsten is a very underrated actress, and just as Scarlett she can easily play this type of silent girls in costumes.
agreed, i adore kirsten, & feel she is extremely under-rated. when scarlett did have to speak, i saw her come out of the role, as i do not find her accents believable. however, i was still able to enjoy this film immensely, thanks to colin firth.
shareI agree. Somehow, I don't think they could have gotten their faces to... express as much as Scarlett's did in this film. It was like, she didn't need to talk because her eyes did so much of the speaking.
I'm sure Kristen might have almost gotten there and I'm not sure with Kate because I'm not a fan of her acting, so never really see anything with her in it.
Colin was Superb, Scarlett... not so much
shareI have to disagree about Scarlett. This role was made for her, and she is nearly flawless in it. Her career has gone nowhere since "Lost in Translation", and I don't think she has developed much as an actress, but her work in this film was superb, and it will likely be the most memorable performance of her career.
shareI'm just imagining Kate Hudson making pig noises and dorky faces the whole time.
shareI am not sure about Kate Hudson!
Its that man again!!
Not to mention that Scarlett simply LOOKS more like the girl in the portrait than Kate and Kirsten do.
