for me, the scene of the earring is one of the best erotic non-sexual scenes in movie history, along with the book scene between anthony hopkins and emma thompson in "remains of the day" (only that colin is far more hot )

These scenes are masterful at capturing the essense of the Artist/Muse relationship. Some of these intimate moments between Vermeer and Griet are filled with so much sexual tension, its almost obscene in a very subtle way.
Brilliant Period Piece and overall film.
