Why’d it bomb? Any sequel to a live-action movie based off of a cartoon

But the thing is, 9 times out of 10, these movies aren’t actually any good. So, when studios decide to make a sequel out of them, they bomb for the most part. That’s why Scooby-Doo 2, The Smurfs 2, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, etc. all underperformed or bombed at the box office. People who were nostalgic for the cartoons either had their fix and didn’t need to see anymore or they thought the first movie sucked and didn’t want to see the sequel, causing the sequels to lose half their audience. Sure, kids and families were still going to see these movies (for the most part) but it probably wasn’t enough to make the kind of profit that their predecessors made.

I didn't see it at the cinema due to not liking the first. But I caught it on a plane flight to Japan and thought it was great, much funnier and better written than the first.

Except that "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" was a worthy sequel and pretty much on par with the original film featuring a totally different cast.

Rock Vegas, like Las Vegas

Scooby doo 2 didn't bomb though. It made just about as much money as the first and had a similar critical reception

It may have not have technically bombed but it definitely didn't make as much of a profit as the first movie. And the fact that the live-action series stopped right then and there, tells me that the movie was ultimately a failure.

I saw this in theaters and liked it better than the first. I hated the original because of Scrappy Doo being the bad guy. James Gunn can suck a bag of rocks for what he did to Scrappy in that movie. He's probably also one of those ignorant haters of him who have never seen the later 80s shows where he wasn't as annoying.

Doesn't account for the terrible TMNT movies we keep getting being succesful at the Box Office. They made Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and all the stupid parents took their kids to see it. That was a sequel to a live action movie based off a cartoon.

So this whole theory is nonsense.
