Did I miss something? Spoilers

In the books, it is explained how Barry Jr escaped Askabahn and that no one outside his parents and Winky knew. Did I miss the explanation in the movie? Out of order in the movie, but in chronological order, we see Barry Jr being accused and then admitting his guilt in the court scene. Then, we see him in the Riddle home with Wormtail. Next we see him casting the dark mark, then he surfaces again impersonating Mad Eye.

The movie dropped the Bertha Jorkins character and subplot completely. She was the one who revealed to Voldemort (under torture to break the Memory Charm Barty sr had placed on her) that Barty jr was still alive.

It was never explained in the film because without her, Voldemort would have had no idea Barty was even alive. Even if Barty had thrown off his father's curse, he'd have had no idea where to look for Voldemort and if he'd made himself known again, would have been straight back to Azkaban and possibly Kissed.

The plot falls apart without Bertha.

There are things that don't translate well from book to film, and one of those things is detailed explanations of past events. In a book a character such as Winkie can sit down and say what happened at a crucial point, and it's thrilling, if they did the same thing in a movie it'd take half an hour and be deadly dull. So what filmmakers do is use a few sentences of exposition of a quick flashback to convey the same information, fully aware that the audience can live without the level of detail that was in the book.

So before this film came out I predicted that Winkie would be left out, and I was right.
