Why did no one question the article about Hermione?

The scene where Hermione reads the article Rita Skeeter wrote about her "latest prey" being Viktor Krum doesn't make sense. She hasn't been seen anywhere near him at this point, yet no one questions it, but they're still shocked when she goes to the yule ball with him. In the book that bit happens after the ball and actually makes sense.

In the books it was made clear that Hermione had been meeting with Krum, mostly at the library where Ron and Harry didn't spend much time. She hadn't told Harry and Ron, presumably because she knew Ron wouldn't take it well.

Although at that point in the books, Ron seems to have more of a crush on Krum than on Hermione.

If Rita is getting scoops that no one else is aware of, as she was in the books, surely it makes sense that she writes an article about Hermione and Krum before we see it?

Of course, there would be a degree of disbelief, people doubting the article because Hermione and Krum is such an unlikely pairing, and yet there they are at the ball. Oh my god, Rita was right - how does she do that??
