Andy Warhol, anyone?
I'm a big Warhol fan, and I think that Chloë Sevigny nailed it when she described the film as being "like an Andy Warhol movie", because it really is similar; I have to wonder if Gallo drew some inspiration from Warhol's movies.
The minimalist style, odd camerawork, super lengthy takes, etc. - all typical Warhol stuff. Take a look at some of his film work and you'll understand what I mean. I don't think any of Warhol's films depict such explicit real sex as this film does though; Warhol did make a movie called "Blow Job", though, which was one continuous shot of a man's face as he supposedly receives a oral sex from an offscreen person (purported to be another man).
Anyway, was anyone else reminded of Andy Warhol when you watched this? I'm a big Warhol fan myself, so I knew I would be in for a treat when I opened the DVD case and saw the triple-print image of Vincent Gallo in sunglasses on the DVD disc (very Warholesque, check out his Elvis paintings). Heck, the split screen trailer for the movie could be a reference itself to Warhol's "Chelsea Girls". Am I the only one who wonders about all this? It looks too obvious to me.
