Yesterday, my parents and my younger sister, Bre and I were watching Dr. Phil: JonBenet Ramsey: Brother Burke and the Secret Interrogation Tapes part 1. My family and I think that Burke might be an Autistic, because how he kept like smile.
I did read some comments on the Dr. Phil YT uploads where "Asperger's or high functioning autism was proposed. Some think that explains his questionable behaviors and affect in childhood too.
I really can't say. I just know he appears to be quite abnormal (at the least) at 29 years of age, and he had disturbing behaviors and poor impulse control in childhood.
Whether he is or not, I disregarded the smile and focused on the eyes, which shifted when the questions got tough.
It wasn't as if he had no affect and only displayed that off-putting smile. No, I could see a lot of emotions being displayed. His eyes shifted, and he kept his fingers moving, even Dr. Phil said he wasn't autistic.
Plus, Burke's private life isn't unlike any 29-year-olds. He has a beautiful girlfriend, who looks like JB, and he is self-supporting. He is just a psycho, but since he comes off odd, people want to excuse the obvious.
First, they want to blame it away on autism, and even if that is the truth, he still committed a crime. Still, he would have never gone to jail over it, but I believe the parents help covered it up out of shame and fear of losing another child.
Yeah, I didn't say he had no affect, just that it was abnormal. I agree with you that his eyes were more telling than the smiling. If Burke was on the autism spectrum, it certainly should not excuse his actions. I doubt he was ever diagnosed with it either. I don't know what his diagnosis would be. I just think he's an absolute freak. "Psycho" works well too.
According to Dr. Phil, who was on some morning show, he said Burke didn't have it.
Well, Dr. Phil said a lot of things that were bogus. I wouldn't think Burke isn't on the autism spectrum simply because of what Dr. Phil said, but Phil may just have been right about that one.
Whatever was wrong with Burke in childhood, it's tragic he was a danger to his sister and never received proper treatment (not to mention proper consequences).

He's shy and has been sheltered. Some people smile when uncomfortable. Behaviorialists need reference points on which to notice changes. A smile doesn't mean guilt or anything on it's own. It's about changes in expressions and other things from what one normal is and/or was.
