Even IF the story is true and Burke was able to go back to sleep...

...what kind of a mother and father allows their child to go back to sleep unguarded in a house that their daughter was just kidnapped from, and might still be inside? If this had happened to my daughter, my son would be in one arm and a 12g shotgun in the other. I could not imagine the thought process that dictates "Oh, my child is abducted, the abductor(s) might still be inside the house, so I am going to let my other child go back to his bedroom and sleep while my wife and I go into the kitchen and call the police". Sorry, not buying it!

Given the shock and trauma, I absolutely would hope my child could sleep. Being around hysterical parents would not be good for him. On top of everything else, I'd worry that I was terrifying him. Far better he sleep. Would I be checking on him? Of course.

But just let him sleep completely unprotected? No. Far better to keep him protected and safe from abduction than to shelter him from the truth that will eventually be revealed to him anyway.

The parents were out of their minds with shock and grief. They hadn't had a moment to process what had happened? Expose a 9-year-old to that? Never. Again, I'd make sure he was safe, but I'd thank God that he could sleep.

The strangest part to me about the whole thing is that they didn't wake him up to ask him if he knows where his sister is! The FIRST thing I would have done is ask my other child if he knows what happened, or if he saw or heard anything.

They checked on him and he was there. They believed she had been kidnapped and already taken out of the house. He could tell something was wrong but scared to discover what.
