Why so many shows on TV on this crime after 20 years? The CBS show, 3 parts, stated that Burke was 9 at the time of Jon Benets death & could not have been charged. Seems odd all theseshows are popping up now unless something is about to come out publicly or someone is about to be charged.
Same thing with the OJ case. Some cases just stick with the public and media outlets get rich because of these cases. Some others that I am sure will circle back around are the Natalie Holloway one and Laci Peterson one (especially since Scott Peterson is in process of appeals). And Sharon Tate/Manson one continually pops up and even more so lately. And thst one was close to 50 years ago. The media is a lot of things, but stupid they are not. These cases are so sad,but cash cows for them.
I'm so appalled that in 1999 the Grand Jury indicted them and the DA didn't follow through. Folks, if we tried what they did we'd all been arrested that night.
I think the "20 year mark" (or reaching 20 years in three months) propelled one or two companies to "research" the case. Then, others get wind and want to compete with their own version.
This story was huge news since day one, and even after it went cold years ago, "the anniversary" of it probably inspired some groups to take a new look. It happens with other high profile cases... both anniversaries and competition.
And that is what happened with the Laci Peterson case too. Christmas time (slow news season), pretty girl who was pregnant, and from a good family. Media is right there with police, hearing about the cases as they come through. And they know which ones have that "thing" that will get and keep the public's attention. For the media, the Ramsey case was the right recipe. Know that sounds terrible, but how the media operates. Media also knows how to sensationalize stories and make them like soap operas. And they get the public fascinated by them, for years to come= Big Ratings and money. OJ case definitely was the one that really started all this, because of 24 hour media channels. But there were some before, but there wasn't 24 hour channels yet. Couple of those were Pamela Smart, the Mendez Brothers and Betty Broderick. So this isn't new by any means.
